Barberan and Fujifilm Advance UV Digital Printing
New Nautilus platform development combines high-speed inkjet production with integrated digital varnishing for enhanced print flexibility and premium finishes.

Barberan and Fujifilm have unveiled the latest advancement in their single-pass digital printing partnership with the introduction of a fully digital print solution featuring integrated digital varnish capabilities for the Nautilus platform. The development represents a significant step forward in high-speed UV inkjet production, expanding possibilities for premium print applications.

The technology was showcased during an open house event at Barberan’s facility in May 2026, highlighting the companies’ continued efforts to enhance single-pass inkjet capabilities beyond traditional corrugated printing applications and into wider graphics markets.

While single-pass printing has gained strong adoption in industrial production, expanding the technology into graphics applications has required solutions that can handle shorter runs, diverse substrates, and the demand for premium surface finishes. Barberan and Fujifilm have focused on addressing these challenges through advancements in ink technology and digital finishing.

Fujifilm’s ink development team collaborated with Barberan to create a new UV ink range designed to provide strong adhesion across a wide variety of media while reducing or eliminating the need for analogue primers. The companies state that this advancement enables printing on thinner papers and more flexible substrates compared with many existing single-pass systems.

A key highlight of the development is Fujifilm’s fully integrated digital varnish solution for single-pass UV printing. While digital varnishing has been widely used in multi-pass printing environments, adapting the technology for high-speed single-pass production required additional innovation. The new solution delivers a satin finish and was previously demonstrated at Fespa 2026 in Barcelona.

The technology is expected to benefit applications such as out-of-home advertising, where brands increasingly require localized campaigns, customized content, and faster production cycles.

The Barberan Nautilus platform is capable of producing more than 1,400 sheets per hour at a 2050 x 1600 mm format, with each sheet supporting unique content. The system also features Barberan’s alignment conveyor technology, enabling duplex printing with registration accuracy of ±0.1 mm.

According to Fujifilm, the collaboration demonstrates the potential of combining advanced ink development with high-speed digital printing platforms to deliver greater productivity, media flexibility, and creative opportunities for print providers.

Barberan highlighted that the Nautilus platform represents a new direction for single-pass digital printing, offering high output speeds, strong print quality across multiple substrates, and capabilities that can compete with traditional offset production for large-format applications.

The latest development from Barberan and Fujifilm reflects the continued evolution of industrial digital printing, where automation, customization, and advanced finishing technologies are becoming increasingly important for future-ready print production.
