Divergent Expands Long Beach Factory and Boosts Metal 3D Printing Capacity
Advanced manufacturing company Divergent Technologies has announced a major expansion of its production capabilities with the launch of a new manufacturing facility in Long Beach, California, and the development of what it describes as the most advanced industrial metal 3D printer built in the United States.
The company revealed that its newly developed “Monolith One” metal 3D printer will play a central role in scaling production for aerospace, defense, and automotive customers. Alongside the technology launch, Divergent plans to install 64 additional Monolith One printers at its new 430,000-square-foot Long Beach facility over the next two years.
The expansion is expected to increase the company’s annual manufacturing output by eight times, enabling faster delivery of critical components and complex structures for both commercial and defense programs.
Designed for continuous, high-volume production, the Monolith One utilizes laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technology and features 24kW of laser power generated through twelve 2kW lasers. The system supports a wide range of industrial alloys, including aluminum, titanium, steel, and nickel, offering manufacturers greater flexibility across multiple applications.
The printer has been developed as a key component of Divergent’s software-defined manufacturing platform, known as DAPS, which integrates digital design, additive manufacturing, and automated assembly processes. The platform is currently used to produce mission-critical components for leading aerospace, defense, and automotive companies.
Divergent currently operates six Monolith One printers at its headquarters in Torrance, California. The addition of 64 new machines at the Long Beach site will significantly expand production capacity, allowing the company to manufacture hundreds of thousands of critical parts annually, including aerospace structures, missile airframes, automotive subframes, and suspension systems.
The new Long Beach manufacturing campus will increase Divergent’s total operational footprint to more than 550,000 square feet. At full capacity, the facility is expected to support approximately 1,000 direct jobs while creating thousands of additional employment opportunities through local suppliers, construction, and supporting industries.
With growing demand for advanced manufacturing solutions, the expansion reinforces Divergent’s position as a leading player in industrial-scale metal additive manufacturing and highlights the increasing role of 3D printing technologies in modern aerospace, defense, and automotive production.
