New PE facestock range combines aqueous inkjet printing, superior conformability and PPWR-ready mono-material packaging for modern label applications.
Sihl has introduced a new portfolio of polyethylene (PE) films featuring aqueous (AQ) inkjet coatings, expanding print-on-demand capabilities for PE labels. The new product range is designed to provide greater flexibility for label manufacturers while supporting sustainable packaging strategies and compliance with the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
The latest PE film portfolio has been developed for applications requiring high flexibility and excellent label conformity. The films adapt easily to curved surfaces, helping produce smooth, crease-free labels on containers of different shapes. They also maintain their appearance on squeezable packaging, following container movement without wrinkling. Thanks to their low rigidity, the films are particularly suitable for small-diameter containers where conventional BOPP and PET materials may be less effective.
To address a wide range of printing requirements, Sihl has introduced four specialised AQ inkjet coatings within the new portfolio.
The IHG1 Gloss coating delivers high-quality print results with a glossy finish, making it suitable for premium product presentation. The IG1 Satin coating combines excellent image quality with a refined satin appearance. For industrial and outdoor applications, the ZM1 Matt BS5609 coating offers water and chemical resistance, while the IM1 Matt Universal coating is designed as a versatile solution for a broad range of indoor label applications.
According to Sihl, the new PE film range marks the first time aqueous inkjet printing technology has been made available for PE films within its portfolio, giving converters additional flexibility for on-demand label production.
The company also highlights the environmental advantages of the new product line. By combining PE label facestocks with PE containers, manufacturers can move closer to mono-material packaging concepts that support easier recycling. Together with print-on-demand inkjet production, the solution helps reduce material waste, minimise inventory requirements, and improve production efficiency.
With the launch of the new PE film portfolio, Sihl aims to provide label converters and brand owners with a future-ready solution that combines print quality, production flexibility, and sustainability while helping meet evolving PPWR requirements.
