Skandacor has launched the FinishPro 3D 1623, described as the world’s first ultra-affordable digital embellishment press. Priced at under $55,000 (£41,000), the new inkjet-based system produces both flat spot coatings and raised 3D textures on sheets up to 16 x 23in.

The machine uses a proprietary XYZ-axis process that applies multiple layers of varnish with precision, said the company.

The FinishPro 3D 1623 offers flat spot UV gloss, raised varnish effects and, when paired with Skandacor’s finishing equipment, raised digital foil accents. Its sub-$55k price point represents a major shift in accessibility for digital enhancement technology, which traditionally carries six-figure costs.

“For too long, the creative impact of digital embellishment has been limited to those with big budgets,” said Brad Drever, CEO of Skandacor. “The FinishPro 3D 1623 breaks that barrier. By delivering exceptional 3D varnish capabilities at under $55k, we’re democratizing embellishment, putting high-end finishing effects within reach of every print shop, not just the largest players.”

Designed for applications including business cards, brochures, packaging, and book covers, the compact press aims to make premium tactile effects viable for small and mid-sized print providers. The FinishPro 3D 1623 will be previewed at Printing United Expo 2025 where visitors to Skandacor’s booth can see live demonstrations of textured spot gloss and raised varnish prints.
