Acquisition strengthens Asteria Group’s UK operations with Abbey Labels’ expertise in digital and flexographic label printing.

Founded as a family printing business in Suffolk more than 50 years ago, Abbey Labels has built a strong reputation for quality, innovation and customer service. Today, the company joins Asteria Group, bringing extensive technical expertise, advanced manufacturing capabilities and a shared commitment to long-term customer relationships.

A strong heritage of expertise and innovation

Founded in the early 1970s by Tom Allum’s father Peter , Abbey Labels has evolved from a family-run general printing business into an established UK specialist in self-adhesive label manufacturing.

Under the leadership of Tom and the Allum family, the business has consistently invested in its people, technology and production infrastructure, building a flexible and responsive operation. Today, Abbey Labels produces over half a billion labels annually, supporting customers across the UK with a broad range of labelling solutions.

Expanding digital capabilities and creating customer value

Abbey Labels brings substantial expertise in both flexographic and digital label production, offering customers the flexibility to select the most effective manufacturing process for their needs.
Combining digital and flexographic production with specialist finishing capabilities, Abbey offers the flexibility to support different order volumes, complex label requirements and demanding delivery schedules.
Its specialist capabilities include:

• High-quality self-adhesive labels across a wide range of materials and applications.
• Digital and flexographic printing for both short and long production runs.
• Peel-and-reveal and multi-layer labels for products requiring additional information.
• Specialist finishing and decorative embellishments to enhance product presentation.

A shared commitment to quality and sustainability

These capabilities complement Asteria’s existing UK operations, creating further opportunities to share expertise, broaden our offering and deliver additional value to customers. Quality, continuous improvement and environmental responsibility have been central to Abbey Labels’ development.

The company’s longstanding AA BRC certification ISO 14001 environmental management certification reflects its commitment to managing environmental impacts and driving continuous improvement. This is further supported by ongoing investment in advanced production technologies designed to improve resource efficiency and reduce waste.
This approach aligns closely with Asteria Group’s ambition to become a sustainable frontrunner in the European label and packaging industry by 2030.

Building on family values

For more than five decades, Abbey Labels has retained the values of a family-founded business, placing importance on its people, customer relationships and long-term partnerships. This approach closely reflects Asteria’s own commitment to collaboration, customer care and building sustainable businesses for the future.
