Canon has confirmed commercial availability for its latest production inkjet platforms, the varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700. The machines expand its offering for commercial printers looking to shift work from existing digital devices or move shorter-run offset jobs into inkjet.
The varioPRESS iV7, first announced at drupa 2024, will be available from Q2 2026. The B2-format press delivers 8700 sheets per hour 4/0 and supports monthly volumes up to 4.5 million B2 images in a 24/6 environment. Canon says the system has been developed to help commercial PSPs, online printers, and book and magazine producers meet growing pressures around turnaround times, shorter runs and premium output requirements. Its media flexibility and production speed aim to support a wide mix of applications for providers working in the B2 space.
Also arriving in Q2 2026 is the varioPRINT iX1700, Canon’s latest B3 sheetfed inkjet press. It offers production at up to 170 A4 images per minute, or 73 B3 images per minute, and is designed for average monthly volumes between 300,000 and 2 million A4 images. The platform incorporates Canon’s new Qualinx technology and combines developments from Canon’s R&D centres in Japan, Germany, and The Netherlands, with a focus on delivering consistent, high-quality output for commercial and in-house print environments.
The new systems join the established varioPRINT iX3200/2100 to create what Canon positions as a broad portfolio spanning sheetfed toner and inkjet, covering volumes from 15,000 A4 images per month to the upper end of B2 inkjet production. Canon says the additions give PSPs clearer upgrade routes as they scale their digital print operations.
Jennifer Kolloczek, senior director, marketing and innovation, production printing, Canon EMEA, commented: “With the introduction of the varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700, we can now offer customers the broadest range of digital sheetfed presses in the industry. This combined with our established dominance in web-fed production reinforces our position as a leader within the digital production print market. This is backed by our heritage and expertise in digital printing, which helps us to support our customers across multiple areas – from exploring new applications to better workflow management to cost optimisation.”
She added: “This year we’ve celebrated 10 years of heritage and leadership within the sheetfed inkjet market, so it’s significant to end the year announcing the availability of the latest additions to this portfolio. Over the last decade, hundreds of commercial printers have grown their businesses with us and, as we move into 2026 with the availability of these two presses, we’re looking forward to partnering with even more print businesses to help transform and grow their digital print offering.”
