Polish book printer invests in its first digital inkjet press to meet rising demand for short-run, on-demand, and personalized book production
Polish book printer Poligrafia Janusz Nowak has entered the digital book printing market with the installation of its first digital inkjet press, the Screen Truepress JET 520HD Mono. The investment marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to expand its production capabilities and address the growing demand for shorter print runs and print-on-demand books.
The company said the move was driven by changing market trends, with more publishers shifting short-run book production to digital printing providers.
“We saw shorter runs increasingly move to companies using digital printing, which meant we risked losing a critical segment of our customer base if we didn’t adapt,” said Mikołaj Nowak of Poligrafia Janusz Nowak. “Investing in digital technology became essential for our continued growth.”
Before making the investment, Poligrafia evaluated several digital printing solutions and ultimately selected the Screen Truepress JET 520HD Mono. The company cited Screen’s strong presence in the Polish market, extensive expertise in digital book production, and dedicated customer support as key factors behind the decision.
According to Nowak, the company sought a technology partner capable of providing not only a reliable printing solution but also industry-specific knowledge and long-term support.
The new monochrome inkjet press will work alongside Poligrafia’s existing offset printing operations, allowing the company to efficiently produce short-run, on-demand, and personalized books while continuing to handle larger offset print jobs. Integrated with Screen’s Equios workflow software, the system also enables variable data printing, opening opportunities for customized and single-copy book production.
The installation represents the first phase of Poligrafia’s digital transformation strategy. The company plans to integrate the new technology into its production workflow before exploring future investments in full-colour digital inkjet printing.
Nowak said digital printing complements the company’s offset capabilities by providing greater production flexibility, faster turnaround times, and the ability to respond more effectively to evolving customer requirements.
With this investment, Poligrafia aims to strengthen its position in the book printing industry by offering comprehensive solutions for both traditional offset and digital print applications while preparing for future growth.
